What’s the main factors for pool lights water leakage?

There are three main reasons why swimming pool lights leak:

(1) Shell material: Pool lights usually need to withstand long-term underwater immersion and chemical corrosion, so the shell material must have good corrosion resistance.

Common pool light housing materials include stainless steel, plastic, and glass. Higher standard stainless steel has good corrosion resistance, but the cost is higher; plastic is light and not easy to rust, but corrosion-resistant engineering plastics need to be selected; glass has good corrosion resistance, but attention must be paid to its manufacturing quality and sealing performance.

(2) Waterproof technology: It is also the most important factor in preventing water from entering the swimming pool light. Common swimming pool light waterproof methods on the market mainly include glue-filled waterproof and structural waterproof.

Glue-filled waterproof is the most traditional and longest-used waterproofing method. It uses epoxy resin to fill part of the lamp or the entire lamp to achieve the waterproof effect. However, if the glue is soaked in water for a long time, aging problems will occur, and the lamp beads will be damaged. When filled with glue, the heat dissipation problem of the lamp beads will lead to the problem of dead lights. Therefore, the glue itself has very high requirements for waterproofing. Otherwise, there will be a very high probability of water intrusion and LED dead lights, yellowing, and color temperature drift.

Structural waterproof is achieved through structural optimization and the sealing assembly of the waterproof ring, lamp cup, and PC cover. This waterproof method greatly avoids the problems of LED died, yellowing, and color temperature drift that are easily caused by glue-filled waterproofing. More reliable, more stable, and has better waterproof performance.
